The Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) on Saturday, October 24, 2026, announced the start of installing the pressurizer in the primary circuit of the first nuclear unit at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, inside the reactor building, marking another milestone in the project's implementation.
The installation coincides with the Egypt Forum 2026, highlighting continued progress on the project and reflecting Egypt's parallel advances in engineering, energy and development. In a statement, the authority said the milestone comes just days after the completion of installing the four steam generators in the first nuclear unit, marking another important step in installing the reactor's main primary-circuit components and underscoring continued progress on key project works.
The pressurizer is one of the main components of the reactor's primary circuit. It regulates and maintains the pressure of the coolant in the reactor core within prescribed operating limits. The equipment weighs approximately 200 tons, while the operating pressure in the primary circuit reaches around 161 bar, reflecting the precise engineering and technical requirements involved in its installation and its critical role in the reactor's operating system.
The pressurizer also helps limit pressure fluctuations in the primary circuit under different operating conditions, supporting system stability and maintaining the integrity of its components. It operates in conjunction with the reactor's protection, control and nuclear safety systems, which are designed to ensure safe operation.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority Sherif Helmy said the achievement carries additional significance as it coincides with the Egypt Forum 2026. He noted that the milestone highlights tangible progress in installing the main components of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and reflects Egypt's drive to strengthen energy security, diversify electricity generation sources and support sustainable development.
