The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has become the first Egyptian bank to obtain a utility model patent for a mobile banking unit, receiving patent No. 30868 from the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority for its innovative design. The patent was presented at a ceremony at NBE headquarters attended by CEO Mohamed El-Etreby and Chairman of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority Hisham Azmi.
The bank also received the authority’s excellence shield. NBE CEO El-Etreby said that the achievement reflects NBE’s commitment to treating intellectual property as a strategic asset and developing innovative banking solutions that support sustainable economic development.
He added that the mobile banking units align with Egypt Vision 2030 and the Central Bank of Egypt’s drive to expand banking services beyond traditional branches, reaching more customers across the country. The units offer traditional and electronic banking services to support financial inclusion and digital transformation.
They also feature innovative mechanical designs to serve people with disabilities. Dina Abou Taleb, head of NBE’s Marketing and Social Development, said the bank’s specialized teams developed the units’ engineering and technical designs, incorporating dedicated spaces for banking services and layouts that facilitate smooth movement.
NBE introduced its mobile banking units in 2021 in the New Capital to serve employees there ahead of the opening of its first branch in the Government District in 2022. The units provide services including account opening, financial transactions, banking consultations and financial awareness, particularly in remote areas that may be difficult to reach through traditional branches.
The bank has also introduced modern mobile units known as “Midi Bus,” which travel across governorates and remote villages to deliver services comparable in quality to those offered at its main branches. Chairman of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority Azmi praised NBE’s role in banking and community initiatives, highlighting its support for intellectual property as an investment asset that contributes to Egypt’s economic development.
He urged Egyptian brands to benefit from the services offered by the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority to support domestic industry and encourage local products across various sectors. The Eighth Edition of the “Turathna 2026” Exhibition for Handicrafts and Heritage Products
