Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday, October 11, 2026, said that food and water security are top priorities for Egypt, describing them as fundamental pillars for meeting citizens’ basic needs and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. Madbouly said a session entitled “Food and Water Security: Today’s Challenges and Future Safeguards” at Egypt Forum 2026 would examine current challenges and the government’s unprecedented efforts to increase self-sufficiency, narrow the import gap and maximise the use of available resources.
He made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday to review preparations for Egypt Forum 2026, in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The meeting focused on the main themes of the session and was attended by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority Secretary-General Khaled Salah, and a host of officials.
During the meeting, Madbouly said a comprehensive review was under way of all the forum’s sessions as preparations continued for the event, scheduled to run between October 19-24. The forum, directed by President El-Sisi, aims to showcase Egypt’s comprehensive development pathways and the progress achieved across various sectors in recent years.
The meeting reviewed the session’s main themes, including the challenges facing food and water security, particularly pressures arising from population growth, climate change, limited water resources, fluctuations in global markets and disruptions to international supply chains.
It also highlighted the efforts made by state institutions to address these challenges, with particular emphasis on the central role of the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority and relevant ministries in leading horizontal and vertical agricultural expansion projects, securing strategic crops, and developing the infrastructure and logistics supporting food supply chains.
These efforts aim to strengthen the resilience of the national economy and its ability to adapt to international developments, the meeting heard. Participants stressed the importance of adopting an open and transparent approach throughout the forum’s sessions and workshops, directly addressing citizens’ concerns and public questions with documented figures and facts.
The approach is intended to strengthen public participation and ensure that citizens have a full understanding of the challenges facing the country and the efforts being made to address them, recognizing them as active partners in Egypt’s development process. The forum aims to present the progress achieved on the ground, provide an objective assessment of the implementation of state projects, and establish clear, sustainable guarantees and action plans to safeguard national resources and secure citizens’ basic needs.
