Egypt exported 4,333 consignments of food products totaling 190,000 tonnes during the week from October 3 to 9, according to the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The exports were shipped by 1,454 companies and covered around 770 types of food products, including vegetables, tubers, fruits, preserved fruit and vegetable preparations, flour, grain products and assorted food items, the authority said in its 38th weekly report for 2026.
Vegetable exports comprised 35 varieties totalling 51,000 tonnes. Sweet potatoes topped the list at around 16,000 tonnes, followed by onions at 13,000 tonnes and beans at approximately 10,000 tonnes. Fruit exports totalled 30,000 tonnes across 26 varieties, led by pomegranates at 10,000 tonnes, followed by strawberries at around 8,000 tonnes and mangoes at 7,000 tonnes.
Saudi Arabia and Sudan were the leading destinations for Egyptian food exports during the reporting week, followed by Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands. Egyptian food products were shipped to a total of 163 countries. Safaga Port ranked first among ports in terms of the number of food export consignments, handling 755, followed by Damietta Port with 600 and Alexandria Port with 555.
As for food imports, the authority said Egypt received 2,265 consignments totalling around 235,000 tonnes, imported by 940 companies. The shipments included wheat, soybeans, various oils and fresh apples. Russia was the leading source of food imports to the Egyptian market during the week, followed by the United States, Ukraine, Indonesia and Canada.
A total of 84 countries exported food products to Egypt. Alexandria Port ranked first in terms of incoming food consignments, handling 790, followed by Port Said Port with 401 and Cairo International Airport with 337.
