Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom discussed with Karim Dahou, Deputy Director of Global Relations and Cooperation at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), prospects for future cooperation and developments in joint programs, as well as arrangements for hosting the OECD ministerial conference for the Middle East and North Africa region.
The conference is scheduled to be held in the New Capital, with the participation of the OECD Secretary-General and delegations from member countries. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Rostom’s participation in the first edition of the “Alamein–Africa 2026” Forum in New Alamein.
Rostom said hosting the high-level international event in the New Capital reflects the depth of the longstanding partnership between Egypt and the OECD and supports the roadmap toward strengthening economic stability and growth in the region. He reviewed the outcomes of the first phase of the “Country Program,” announcing Egypt’s intention to begin meetings of technical teams to set priorities for the program’s second phase.
He explained that the new phase will focus on priority areas, including enhancing institutional efficiency, improving the competitiveness of the business environment, transferring international expertise in mobilizing foreign direct resources, and upgrading the modern national accounts system.
For his part, Dahou praised the serious reform steps being undertaken by the Egyptian government, affirming the OECD’s commitment to providing all forms of technical and institutional support to advance sustainable development priorities in Egypt and across Africa.
