Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom said on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Egypt implemented public green investments worth EGP 215.5 billion during fiscal year 2024/25, with projects spanning seven key sectors led by green transportation. The remarks came as the minister received a report on the implementation status of public green investments during FY2024/25, outlining key achievements as part of the state's efforts to increase environmentally sustainable investments and integrate environmental considerations into development planning.
According to the report, green transportation accounted for 71.5 percent of total green investments implemented during the fiscal year, followed by projects under "Decent Life" initiative at 10.5 percent, sustainable urban development at 8 percent, environmental improvement at 4.5 percent, agriculture and irrigation at 3 percent, clean energy at 1.5 percent, in addition to the telecommunications sector.
Rostom noted that 87 percent of the investments were allocated to climate mitigation projects, while 13 percent targeted climate adaptation initiatives. He said expanding the share of green public investments forms part of Egypt's broader efforts to advance environmentally sustainable projects in line with the National Climate Change Strategy and the country's green transition agenda, while maintaining compliance with international standards.
He noted that the ministry is working to increase the share of green public investments from 15 percent in FY2020/21 to around 60 percent in the current FY2026/27, reflecting the state's commitment to sustainable development and the transition toward a green economy.
Rostom affirmed that the ministry will continue integrating environmental sustainability standards into all stages of preparing, implementing and monitoring the state's investment plan to support more sustainable and inclusive economic growth, advance Egypt Vision 2030 and strengthen the country's position in regional and international climate action efforts.
With regard to the Decent Life initiative, Rostom said green investments implemented under the flagship rural development program during FY2024/25 included the construction and upgrading of wastewater treatment plants, canal rehabilitation works and the development of drink stations purification stations.
