Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the National Natural Gas Grid Control Center (NATA) at the headquarters of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) to review natural gas supplies and the regular flow of gas to various consumer sectors, particularly power generation plants and industrial facilities.The visit also aimed to assess the readiness of the national gas grid to meet consumption needs during the peak summer period.The Minister was briefed on the operation of the gas grid and the status of natural gas supplies in a presentation by GASCO Chairman Mohamed Marzouq.Marzouq outlined the efficiency of the grid’s control and operating systems in managing gas flows and maintaining regular supplies to various sectors of the domestic market, in line with advance plans to address higher consumption rates and emergency or exceptional circumstances.Badawi praised the efficiency and preparedness of petroleum sector workers and their continued efforts to secure the domestic market’s needs for natural gas and petroleum products.He said the system’s success in meeting the needs of power generation plants and industrial sectors during the peak period for the second consecutive year demonstrates the efficiency of the work system and the integrated efforts of all relevant entities.The minister said proactive planning, coupled with continuous coordination and integration between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Electricity and Renewable Energy, had enabled the authorities to effectively respond to unprecedented increases in energy demand.These efforts ensured the supplies required to meet record electricity loads exceeding 40,000 megawatts during the summer, while maintaining the stability and regular operation of the national natural gas grid, he added.Badawi attributed the successful management of demand to advance planning and enhanced readiness for various potential scenarios, which enabled a swift response to any changes or emergencies and helped ensure uninterrupted supplies.He affirmed that the ministry is continuing to implement its plan to secure natural gas supplies through the end of the summer, with real-time monitoring of production and consumption rates and supply flows.The minister added that efforts are also being made to further strengthen the readiness of the national gas grid to respond promptly to any developments, ensuring sustainable gas supplies to all sectors nationwide.
