“Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi on Thursday discussed with senior executives of global energy company Chevron the final steps needed to complete procedures, agreements and arrangements for a project to link Cyprus' Aphrodite natural gas field to Egyptian infrastructure,” the Ministry said on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The talks took place at the conclusion of Badawi's visit to Athens and are aimed at paving the way for a decision to procure long-lead items, followed by a final investment decision and the start of project implementation as soon as possible. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a statement that the meeting reviewed the work completed by joint teams and the status of the project's technical, commercial and legal procedures.
Badawi stressed the importance of accelerating completion of the remaining steps and directed that all necessary support and coordination be provided to facilitate the work of the teams involved and bring the project to the implementation stage. The Minister said the Aphrodite project represented an important step toward maximizing the use of Egypt's infrastructure for receiving, processing, and handling natural gas, and enhancing regional energy integration to support Egypt's position as a regional hub for gas trading and commerce.
He said using Egyptian infrastructure to transport and redirect Eastern Mediterranean gas to markets represented added value for regional resources and provided a basis for further cooperation and investment in the energy sector.
