Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) has completed concrete pouring works for the Unit 1 control building (UCB) at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. In a statement on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the authority said the control building is one of the main structures of the nuclear unit and houses the systems and equipment required to monitor, operate, and control the unit's systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation in line with nuclear safety requirements.
The total volume of concrete poured during the operation was therefore 550 cubic meters, completed over 11 hours of continuous work with the participation of about 90 engineers and workers. The authority said the operation reflected the scale of efforts and the continued coordination among teams at the site to ensure that the works were carried out in accordance with the highest applicable technical standards and codes as set out in approved design documents and drawings.
It added that the works were supported by successful destructive and non-destructive testing, ensuring the structural integrity of the building. About 4,000 cubic meters of concrete have now been poured as part of the current construction phase of the Unit 1 control building, including 2,500 cubic meters for concrete walls and 1,500 cubic meters for slabs.
NPPA Chairman Sherif Helmy said completion of the concrete pouring works for the Unit 1 control building, which houses the plant’s main and backup control rooms, represented an important milestone and a new addition to the project’s construction progress. Helmy said the achievement reflected the level of coordination and productive cooperation between the NPPA, the project owner and operator, and its Russian partner Atomstroyexport, the project’s general contractor.
He added that the authority was continuing to closely monitor all designs and construction stages to ensure the highest standards of quality, nuclear safety and security. Alexey Kononenko, Vice President of AtomStroyexport and Director of the Dabaa Construction Project, said completion of the UCB concrete works was an important step toward completing the vital systems and main structures of Unit 1.
The milestone demonstrated the high level of professionalism and strict commitment of the various project teams to the established construction schedule, he said. The NPPA said completion of the control building’s concrete works provided further evidence of the accelerating and continued progress of construction at the Dabaa nuclear power plant.
