Minister of Labor Hassan Raddad said that preparing Egypt’s National Decent Work Programme represents an important step toward developing an integrated framework that identifies national priorities in the field of decent work and translates them into actionable and measurable outcomes and programmes, in line with labor market needs and the rapidly evolving world of work.Raddad made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by Ahmed Nazmy, Head of the Central Administration for International Relations at the Ministry of Labor, during the Government Consultation Session on Egypt’s National Decent Work Programme, held in Cairo in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) office.The session was attended by Eric Ochlan, Director of the ILO Country Office in Cairo and Director of the Decent Work Technical Team for Egypt and Eritrea, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and national authorities and the social partners.The minister underscored the importance of basing the programme on a participatory national vision that takes into account the state’s priorities and labor market needs, with the participation of the government, employers and workers.He affirmed the Ministry of Labor’s commitment to continuing its partnership and coordination with the ILO and all partners in a manner that supports the provision of decent, safe and productive work for all workers.Raddad noted that the meeting comes as part of joint efforts by the Ministry of Labor and the ILO to prepare Egypt’s National Decent Work Programme, with the participation of various relevant ministries, authorities and social partners, contributing to the development of an integrated national vision on decent work issues.The minister said that the joint cooperation has included the implementation of numerous projects and programmes aimed at supporting the state’s efforts to promote compliance with international labor standards, improve the labor system, enhance working conditions and the work environment, create safe workplaces, combat child labor, promote occupational safety and health, and support employment policies, social dialogue and social protection.He added that areas of cooperation have also expanded to include promoting gender equality, empowering women and increasing women’s employment rates, reflecting the shared commitment to achieving decent work and strengthening workers’ rights.Raddad affirmed the state’s appreciation for the role played by the ILO as a key partner in supporting Egypt’s efforts in these areas.
He stressed the ministry’s commitment to continuing and developing this partnership in line with the state’s priorities and labor market needs, thereby contributing to the provision of decent, safe and productive work.Concluding his remarks, Raddad expressed his thanks and appreciation to the ILO for its continued support and cooperation in preparing the programme, as well as to the ministries, national authorities and social partners, and everyone who contributed to the success of the process.
