Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy said around 245 digital services have so far been made available through the "Egypt Digital" platform, with the ministry targeting more than 400 services by 2030.Hendy said the ministry has also launched the "Digital Identity Platform," enabling citizens to complete transactions requiring personal verification, including powers of attorney and notarization, entirely online without having to visit government offices.
He added that mobile phone production in Egypt rose from 3 million units in 2024 to around 10 million units in 2025.Production is expected to reach between 14 million and 15 million units this year, covering most of the domestic demand estimated at between 18 million and 20 million units, while paving the way for exports.Hendy made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association, headed by Fathallah Fawzi, Vice Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors and Chairman of its Real Estate Development and Contracting Committee.The meeting was also attended by Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), and Mahmoud Badawi, Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Digital Transformation.The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and expand areas of partnership between the ministry and the association, as well as investment opportunities in the outsourcing industry and a number of digital transformation projects.Hendy expressed his keenness to meet with the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association, describing it as an important national institution that brings together a distinguished group of Egyptian business leaders.He stressed the importance of continued coordination and regular meetings between the ministry and the association to address the aspirations of the business community and support digital transformation efforts.The minister said the ministry is continuing to expand the number of beneficiaries of its digital training and capacity-building initiatives, which target various age groups and professional backgrounds, with the aim of preparing young Egyptian talent for domestic and international labor markets.He also highlighted the launch of innovative Egyptian applications using artificial intelligence technologies to support "digital sovereignty," foremost among them the "Karnak Chat" application.He also cited the "Belmasry" system, which enables text-to-speech and speech-to-text conversion in Arabic and Egyptian Arabic and supports 50 foreign languages, as well as the "Loghat" application for learning English.Hendy said the ministry is continuing to implement a plan to expand fiber-optic network coverage across Egypt’s governorates, alongside projects to extend fiber-optic cables to villages covered by the presidential “Decent Life” initiative.He added that preparations are underway to launch an integrated strategy for data centers by the end of this year in cooperation with the relevant ministries and authorities.Hendy stressed that cybersecurity remains a key priority for protecting digital systems, state infrastructure and Egypt’s digital assets.He noted that outsourcing industry exports reached dlrs 5.1 billion by the end of 2025, adding that the ministry aims to raise outsourcing exports to $8 billion by 2028.He pointed to promising investment opportunities in the outsourcing industry amid growing interest from global outsourcing companies in expanding their operations in Egypt.For his part, ITIDA CEO Ahmed El-Zaher said Egypt’s outsourcing industry is witnessing rapid and comprehensive growth, noting that the number of professionals working in the sector has risen from around 90,000 in 2021 to more than 195,000 currently.He said the increase reflects the significant development of the industry in recent years, adding that efforts are underway to build on this growth and achieve higher growth rates in the coming period.Zaher said ITIDA cooperates with local and international companies operating in the outsourcing services export sector through agreements aimed at expanding their operations and increasing their workforces.He said the latest agreements, signed with 55 international companies, are expected to create around 75,000 new jobs.He added that the growth of Egypt’s outsourcing industry is not limited to Cairo but extends across various governorates, allowing companies to access a broader pool of talent and supporting the nationwide distribution of employment opportunities and related investments.During the meeting, the national real estate identification number system was also reviewed as part of newly introduced digital mechanisms aimed at protecting state assets and facilitating the delivery of services to citizens.Assistant Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Digital Transformation Mahmoud Badawi said the National Real Estate Identification Number Law assigns every property, residential unit and plot of land in Egypt a unique, standardized identification code.The system prevents duplicate transactions, eliminates redundancy and helps ensure the integrity of property ownership, he explained.Badawi noted that the ministry has already completed the issuance of national identification numbers for all buildings across Egypt, in addition to covering a large number of real estate units nationwide through integration with utilities data.Members of the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association delegation praised the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s leading role in driving a major transformation in the country’s digital infrastructure.They stressed that the ministry’s role extends beyond managing the telecommunications sector to leading efforts to integrate technology across government agencies and institutions, paving the way for phasing out paper-based transactions and improving the business environment.The delegation members also commended the government coordination overseen by the Ministry of Communications to connect all relevant entities through a unified digital platform, saying this would help reduce bureaucracy and safeguard the rights of developers and investors alike.
