Nigeria has finalized a revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with the Kingdom of Morocco, marking a significant advancement in air transport relations between the two nations. The agreement was formalized by Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during the second day of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) held in Marrakech.
According to a statement released by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Aviation Minister, the revised BASA is designed to expand connectivity between Nigeria and Morocco while creating new opportunities for carriers operating across both jurisdictions. The deal is expected to deepen commercial and economic relations in the aviation sector.
"It establishes a modern and forward-looking framework that enhances connectivity, deepens commercial cooperation, and expands operational opportunities for airlines, airports, and regulatory institutions," the statement outlined.
The government indicated that the agreement aligns with broader continental aviation objectives, incorporating provisions that support safety, security, and environmental sustainability standards. Beyond the aviation sector, the deal is anticipated to stimulate trade, tourism, and investment flows between the two countries while fostering greater people-to-people exchanges.
The signing represents a continuation of efforts to modernize bilateral air transport frameworks and facilitate greater connectivity across African markets, positioning both nations to benefit from increased air traffic and tourism potential.
