Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad said the expansion of electric transport reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions that deliver environmental, economic and social benefits, while providing citizens with modern, safe and efficient transportation and improving air quality and reducing emissions.
She noted that 20 electric buses were delivered to the Ministry of Transport for operation as part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on Cairo’s Ring Road, in cooperation with MCV. This move is part of the Greater Cairo Air Pollution and Climate Change Management Project, in cooperation with the World Bank, and supports efforts to improve public transport services while reducing pollution and emissions.
Awad said integrating electric buses into public transport represents a practical example of translating the government’s environmental, climate, and sustainable development goals into tangible projects and services. She added that the BRT system will help reduce reliance on conventional fossil-fuel-powered transport and curb related pollution.
