Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh said on Monday, July 6, 2026, that Egypt is keen to foster its economic partnership with the UK, boost two-way investments and increase trade exchange between the two countries. The minister made the remarks during his meeting with British Ambassador to Egypt Mark Bryson-Richardson, where the two sides reviewed economic, trade and investment issues of mutual interest.

Saleh added the government moves ahead with the efforts to create a more competitive business environment and remove obstacles facing investors in coordination with relevant authorities. The talks included a review of British investments in Egypt, particularly those of pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, and the British-Swedish company's expansion plans, as well as investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and ways to attract additional British investments.

The two sides also tackled collaboration in the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory and tax obstacles affecting British companies, stressing the importance of continued coordination to address challenges facing investors and support the expansion of their business in Egypt.

Concerning trade, the discussions focused on increasing Egyptian agricultural exports to the British market, particularly strawberries and grapes, as well as British measures affecting the steel sector. Both sides underlined the significance of maintaining consultations under the Egypt-UK Association Agreement to preserve stable trade relations and achieve mutual interests.

Richardson said the UK seeks to deepen economic and investment cooperation with Egypt and build on progress made in bilateral relations. The ambassador noted British companies are interested in expanding their investments in Egypt and will continue coordinating with the Egyptian government to advance joint projects and enhance trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
