Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla highlighted strong growth of Egypt’s instant payment network, with registered customers reaching about 22 million and transactions totaling 1.47 billion worth EGP 4.33 trillion by the end of Q2 2026. The minister made the remarks on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while attending a number of important meetings.
The CBE Governor participated in the 50th annual meeting of the Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Agencies, held Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, which brought together representatives of the World Bank Group, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), policymakers and financial experts from the region and beyond.
Abdalla also attended the MENA Leaders' Summit on Financial Health organized by the Central Bank of the UAE in cooperation with the World Bank Group, the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA) and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF).
He also attended events marking the 50th anniversary of the AMF. The meeting reviewed progress in implementing the Arab region’s inclusive instant payments program, as countries accelerate the shift toward digital payments and develop instant payment systems, including Egypt’s InstaPay, Saudi Arabia’s SARIE and the UAE’s Aani.
He said the next phase of instant payment programs should focus on expanding financial inclusion and the use of instant payment services in addition to promoting regional integration and cross-border payments, while taking into account each country’s needs and the maturity of its payments infrastructure.
Speaking at a high-level workshop on macroeconomic resilience amid geopolitical disruptions, Abdalla further stressed the importance of central bank independence and credibility, as well as coordination between fiscal and monetary policies, especially amid rising global uncertainty.
