Over two years of implementing the Head of State’s Taza Qazastan initiative, 1,500 environmental activities have been carried out nationwide. As part of these efforts, 2 million tons of waste were collected and about 5.5 million trees were planted. Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev said while briefing President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on work related to greening public spaces and creating a comfortable and safe urban environment, Akorda reports.
According to the minister, around 6.5 million people take part in these campaigns annually, including 780,000 volunteers. From 2021 to 2025, 1.648 billion seedlings were planted in the forest fund across an area exceeding 1 million hectares. In populated areas, 18.4 million trees were planted over five years, surpassing the planned 15 million.
During the event, several regional representatives spoke about their work within the nationwide environmental campaign via videoconference: Turkestan region Governor Nuralkhan Kusherov and eco-volunteer Aida Makanbay; West Kazakhstan region Governor Nariman Turegaliyev and eco-activist Nursultan Sarsenbayev; East Kazakhstan region Governor Nurymbet Saktaganov and Chairman of the Board of Ulba Metallurgical Plant Sergey Bezhetsky; and Pavlodar region Governor Asain Baikhanov and head of the regional Zhasyl El headquarter Rusana Sulaimonova.
