Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie said the Suez Canal continues to strengthen its leading position in the global maritime community and develop its navigation services despite ongoing regional challenges. Rabie made the remarks during a meeting with Prosecutor General Mohamed Shawky and a delegation of senior Public Prosecution officials at the Maritime Training and Simulation Academy in Ismailia.
According to a SCA statement, Rabie said the authority is enhancing communication with international shipping lines and introducing a range of new maritime services, including marine rescue, ship maintenance and repair, maritime ambulance services, bunkering and crew-change operations.
He highlighted the canal's strategic importance to Egypt as a key source of national income and one of the world's most important trade routes linking East and West. Rabie also reviewed progress under the authority's 2030 strategy, which aims to diversify revenue streams, expand business activities and strengthen the SCA's community role.
He noted that the authority is moving forward with efforts to localize the maritime industries sector and transform its affiliated shipyards and companies into a major industrial hub, citing a partnership with the South Red Sea Shipyard to manufacture marine units locally and begin exports to European markets.
At the end of the meeting, Rabie and Shawky exchanged commemorative shields. The delegation later attended a simulation of vessel transit operations at the academy, followed by a maritime tour of the New Suez Canal and a visit to the Suez Canal Museum.
