The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has stepped up efforts to accelerate the commencement of the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port in Kebbi State following talks with Governor Nasir Idris on the project’s implementation. The meeting held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi reviewed progress on the project and the outstanding requirements for construction to begin at Tsamiya in Bagudo Local Government Area.
Speaking after the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the NSC, Pius Akutah, described the discussions as productive, noting that they followed an earlier inspection of the proposed project site. He disclosed that the project promoters had submitted all required documentation to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), where it is undergoing processing.
Akutah said the inland dry port would serve as a strategic logistics hub, easing pressure on the nation’s seaports, facilitating cargo movement to the hinterland, boosting international trade and creating thousands of jobs. He added that the facility forms part of the Nigeria–Benin Republic Trade Corridor and would strengthen trade with the neighbouring Republic of Niger, positioning Kebbi as a key gateway for regional commerce.
Akutah also revealed plans to establish a vehicle transit park along the Lagos–Sokoto Super Highway to provide a secure rest area for truck drivers, support trade and enhance road safety. Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the project, assuring the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, the promoters and relevant federal agencies of the state’s full support to remove bottlenecks and ensure an early take-off.
When completed, the Tsamiya Inland Dry Port is expected to boost import and export activities, lower transport costs, attract investment and strengthen Kebbi’s position as a major regional trade and logistics hub.
