Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Waleid Gamal El-Dein affirmed the depth of economic and investment ties between the SCZONE and Chinese companies, noting that cooperation has witnessed significant growth across industrial and logistical sectors in recent years.
Gamal El-Dein made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Tongling City in China’s Anhui Province, headed by Zheng Gang, member of the Standing Committee and head of the Organization Department of the Tongling Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, to discuss means of enhancing bilateral economic and investment cooperation.
He said the growing Chinese presence within the SCZONE reflects the confidence of the Chinese business community in the investment climate offered by the economic zone. The SCZONE chief stressed the authority’s keenness to expand cooperation with Chinese firms in strategic value-added industries, citing the zone’s competitive advantages that position it as a global industrial and logistical hub.
He noted that the SCZONE provides an integrated investment environment that supports the localization of strategic industries through its location along one of the world’s most important maritime corridors, enabling investors to access regional and international markets while reducing shipping costs.
Gamal El-Dein added that the zone’s attractiveness is further enhanced by the integration between ports and industrial zones, advanced infrastructure, one-stop-shop investor services, skilled Egyptian labor, and competitively priced energy. He pointed out that the SCZONE has succeeded in earning the trust of numerous Chinese companies operating in various industrial sectors.
For his part, Zheng Gang expressed pleasure at visiting the SCZONE, praising the significant development in its infrastructure and business environment. He gave an overview of Tongling City, known as the “Millennium Copper Capital” due to its long industrial history and advanced expertise in several industrial and technological sectors.
Zheng said the delegation seeks to deepen economic and investment cooperation with the SCZONE, expressing hope that the visit would mark the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between Tongling City and the SCZONE under the broader framework of strategic ties between Egypt and China.
Chinese investments rank among the most prominent foreign investments within the SCZONE, spanning chemical, metal, textile, renewable energy component manufacturing, as well as logistical and service activities. SCZone also hosts several major Chinese companies operating in solar energy supplies, tire manufacturing, and heavy industries, underscoring the SCZONE’s growing role as a key hub for Egyptian-Chinese economic cooperation in Africa and the Middle East.
