Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the Egyptian government had given significant attention to Matrouh Governorate in recent years, implementing a range of service and development projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and creating jobs.
The Prime Minister made the remarks at the start of an extensive tour of Matrouh to open and inspect a number of development and service projects, as well as review progress on the development of the Alam El-Roum area. Madbouly was accompanied by Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam, Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat, Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, Housing and Utilities and Urban Communities Minister Randa el-Menshawy.
Matrouh Governor Mohamed el-Zamlout, Deputy Governor Islam Ragab, and New Ras El-Hekma Development Chief Walid Haggag also joined the tour, alongside Moussa Espita el-Sangary, Head of Matrouh’s Council of Mayors and Sheikhs. Madbouly said the projects being carried out in Matrouh are intended to support integrated urban development and improve residents’ quality of life.
They include new cities, ports, modern road networks, seawater desalination plants, drinking water and wastewater facilities, upgraded healthcare facilities, and electricity projects. The projects also include trial operations of the first line of Egypt’s high-speed electric rail network, running from Ain Sokhna to Alamein and Matrouh, which is scheduled to begin in September 2026, he said.
“These projects confirm that the state has not left any part of the country untouched by comprehensive development,” Madbouly said. “We are today conducting a field tour of a wide range of service projects aimed at improving the quality of life for our people in Matrouh, as well as reviewing developments in the Alam El-Roum development project,” he added.
Madbouly highlighted the importance of the Alam El-Roum project, describing it as a major investment partnership between Egypt and Qatar’s Qatari Diar aimed at creating a new development hub on Egypt’s North Coast. The project includes a range of developments as part of government plans to make better use of coastal land and create planned tourism-oriented urban communities, he said.
