Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inspected a family medicine center in Kafr El Sheikh on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This comes as part of Egypt's vision to expand primary healthcare services in rural communities under the Decent Life 'Hayah Karima' initiative.
Madbouly visited the center in El Gezira El Khadra village in Motobas during a tour of development projects in the governorate. The PM said that the government aims to provide residents of rural villages with essential healthcare close to their homes, reducing the need to travel to hospitals except for cases requiring specialized treatment.
He added that healthcare projects are being carried out alongside improvements to drinking water, sanitation, roads, electricity and communications to provide villages with better public services and infrastructure. For his part, Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that family medicine centers are the main point of access to daily healthcare for many residents, providing treatment, preventive care, early detection and patient follow-up.
The El Gezira El Khadra center provides emergency and family medicine services, dentistry, vaccinations, maternal and child healthcare, pregnancy monitoring and care for chronic diseases. Patients requiring more advanced treatment are transferred to specialized hospitals.
Officials said that 23 healthcare projects are included in the first phase of the Decent Life initiative in Motobas. The program has included the construction of 13 new health units and renovation of 10 existing units, in addition to a hospital and six ambulance units.
The wider development program in Motobas includes 18 road projects, 18 electricity projects, 24 irrigation bridges, 15 youth centers, five government service complexes, five agricultural complexes and housing and social service projects. During his visit, Madbouly inspected the emergency room, dental clinic, family medicine clinic and maternal and child healthcare facilities.
He also spoke with patients about the availability and cost of services. The PM called for sufficient medical staff, medicines and supplies and said improved facilities must be matched by reliable healthcare services and proper treatment of patients.
