Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly directed that Egypt's national economic program for the post-International Monetary Fund (IMF) reform period be drafted in a clear and accessible manner that addresses the public while also meeting the needs of experts, specialists and economic institutions.
Chairing a meeting on Monday, July 20, 2026, to outline the implementation plan for presidential directives on preparing the national economic program, Madbouly stressed that the program should include clearly defined parameters, measurable objectives and objective performance evaluation mechanisms to ensure transparency and facilitate monitoring of its implementation.
The meeting reviewed steps to implement directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on preparing the framework of a national economic program for the period following the completion of Egypt's economic reform program with the IMF. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa, Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi, Labour Minister Hassan Raddad, Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Minister Ahmed Rostom, Industry Minister Khaled Hashem, and other senior officials.
Madbouly said the meeting was part of a series of follow-up meetings to implement the president's directives announced during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters and translate them into specific action plans. He noted that the government, in full coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt, is preparing a national economic program that will guide the next phase of economic development after the IMF-supported reform program concludes.
A working group comprising representatives of the relevant authorities has been formed to finalize the program based on an integrated vision reflecting the state's economic priorities for the coming period, he added. The Prime Minister said the program would be submitted to President Sisi upon completion ahead of its official launch.
Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homosany said the meeting reviewed the main features, priorities and objectives of the program, which is being prepared through close coordination between the government and the central bank to ensure consistency between fiscal and monetary policies.
He added that the meeting also reviewed lessons learned from countries that implemented IMF-supported reform programs and the policies they adopted after completing those programs, with the aim of drawing on international best practices while taking into account the specific needs of the Egyptian economy and national development priorities.
Participants also stressed the importance of building on achievements made under the National Structural Reform Program, the National Narrative for Sustainable Development and Egypt Vision 2030, the spokesman said. Concluding the meeting, Madbouly thanked all those involved in preparing the national economic program and stressed the importance of continued coordination among the relevant authorities to finalize it according to the established timetable before submitting it to the president.
