Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly affirmed that the state places great importance on the energy sector as one of the key pillars of comprehensive development, stressing the government’s commitment to promoting a culture of rationalizing consumption within its institutions in order to improve service efficiency and achieve sustainability.
This came during the inauguration of Cairo Governorate Smart-Controlled Fuel Station in Al Zawiya Al-Hamra district, where officials from the governorate presented the results of implementing the smart governance system at the station. The system has contributed to monthly fuel savings estimated at around 95,600 liters, equivalent to a 62% reduction and a financial saving of nearly EGP 2 million per month.
Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber explained that the station represents a qualitative shift in managing the governorate’s fuel resources for vehicles, moving from traditional operating methods to an integrated smart system that ensures accurate refueling operations, reduces waste, and provides strict monitoring of consumption rates.
During an inspection tour of the station, the Prime Minister was briefed on the project, which aims to enhance efficiency and effectiveness and ensure optimal use of resources through a computerized system for tracking fuel consumption. All operations are electronically linked to prevent manipulation and strengthen transparency and accountability.
The governor added that the success of the smart governance model at Al Zawiya Al-Hamra station has encouraged the governorate to consider expanding the system to other fuel stations under its supervision, noting that a similar system is currently being studied for implementation in Helwan.
For her part, Nermin Makram Fahmy, Acting Director of the Infrastructure and Information Security Department at the Governorate Information Center, said the station was implemented by the Arab Organization for Industrialization over an area of 3,017 square meters.
It serves 678 vehicles belonging to the Governorate’s General Office, Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Authority, and the Eastern, Northern, and Western districts. She added that the total annual savings resulting from the governance system exceeded one million liters of fuel, in addition to a 44.7% reduction in vehicle oil consumption.
She also noted the application of a modern electronic system based on a smart ring installed on the fuel tank openings of vehicles included in the system. The ring accurately records supplied and consumed quantities and prevents any manipulation of petroleum materials.
The station includes a control room to monitor vehicle consumption levels and automatically match consumed quantities with tank inventories, in addition to an advanced surveillance camera system and security infrastructure. Also, it is equipped with integrated systems including a fire alarm system, a manual firefighting system, an emergency power generator, and modern control panels providing real-time reports on tank and fuel pump status, as well as advanced technological protection systems to prevent fuel theft or waste and ensure product quality and safety.
