Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that the executive measures being taken to enhance the competitiveness of the economy and increase foreign direct investment are being closely followed up, along with developments in the implementation of the 2026/2027 economic and social development plan and the public investment plan in coordination with the governorates, as well as other key files.
Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, with Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom as part of his regular follow-up of the ministry's work files. The meeting was attended by a number of planning ministry officials.
For his part, Rostom said the ministry is working, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to improve economic conditions and achieve tangible progress in this regard, while prioritizing projects under the presidential "Decent Life" (Haya Karima) initiative to develop rural villages, as well as the Universal Health Insurance project.
He added that the ministry is also coordinating with various ministries to contain the repercussions of the ongoing crises in the region, which are negatively affecting supply chains and driving up prices of petroleum products and food commodities. "Within this framework, we are taking an integrated approach to bolster the strategic reserves of basic commodities and secure the state's needs for petroleum products, while moving swiftly to increase reliance on renewable energy," the minister said.
He noted that the impact of these crises on growth rates is being closely monitored and that targets are being reviewed whenever necessary. During the meeting, the minister reviewed several files, including the National Investment Bank's achievement of an unprecedented financial turnaround, recording a net profit of nearly EGP 6 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025.
He highlighted that such achievement represents a strong recovery in the bank's financial position, stressing that the bank is one of the state's key development and investment arms and has adopted an integrated strategy to restructure its subsidiaries in a way that maximizes their contribution to the national economy.
In this regard, Rostom outlined the bank's future executive action plan, which includes establishing a mechanism to ensure infrastructure financing through innovative financing instruments. The mechanism will involve forging strategic partnerships with the World Bank and a number of international financial institutions, through close cooperation among the Ministries of Finance and Planning and the subsidiaries of the National Investment Bank.
In another context, Rostom highlighted efforts to host the third edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Festival in Egypt, scheduled to kick off next November. He said Egypt's hosting of the global event reflects its leading regional position in the entrepreneurship sector in the Middle East and Africa.
