Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi inspected the deep-water drilling vessel Stena IceMax in the North Cleopatra area of the Mediterranean to follow up on operations at the new natural gas exploration well “Felix-1X.” The sixth-generation deep-water drilling vessel, operated by Stena Drilling, is carrying out a program to drill several wells off the Egyptian coast, including the development well “Mina West” and the exploration wells “Sirius” and “Felix.” The Ministry said the Stena IceMax is among the most advanced drilling units operating in the region, reflecting the scale and technical capabilities of ongoing exploration activities in the Mediterranean.
The inspection comes as Egypt continues efforts to expand natural gas exploration and production activities and attract investment in the country’s energy sector.
