The appointment, which took effect immediately, comes just over a year after Kweli Capital Group acquired a majority stake in the brokerage firm OMS Africa principal officer Lydia Wangare Gakanga /HANDOUT Financial services firm Kweli Capital’s subsidiary OMS Africa, has appointed Lydia Wangare Gakanga as its Principal Officer.
The move places the executive at the helm of the brokerage’s operations and regulatory compliance as it seeks to strengthen its position in Kenya’s capital markets. The appointment, which took effect immediately, comes just over a year after Kweli Capital Group acquired a majority stake in the brokerage, formerly known as Old Mutual Securities Ltd, from Old Mutual Holdings Plc in 2025.
The value of the transaction was not disclosed. Gakanga joins OMS Africa from Stanbic Bank Kenya, where she was an Investment Specialist in the Wealth & Investments team. She brings more than 10 years of experience spanning banking, asset management, portfolio management and capital markets.
Her appointment gives her formal responsibility for OMS Africa’s operations, regulatory compliance and client conduct, under the Principal Officer role defined by the Capital Markets Authority. “I am delighted to take up this role at a time when the industry is experiencing unique challenges.

OMS Africa has operated on the Nairobi Securities Exchange since 1992 and holds broker code B08. The firm is also a member of the Kenya Association of Stockbrokers and Investment Banks and serves more than 34,000 clients, according to the company.
The appointment comes as Kweli Capital expands its financial services operations beyond its traditional market. The group recently secured a fund management licence in Uganda, extending its regulated presence beyond Kenya.
