The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said on Sunday, May 24, 2026, 5,440 that food export consignments totaling 280,000 tons were shipped between May 16 and May 22 by 1,484 exporting companies. In its 19th weekly report for 2026, NFSA said the shipments included around 760 types of food products, including fruits, vegetables, tubers, flour and grain products, processed fruit and vegetable products, and other food items.
The Authority said exported fruit varieties totaled 36, with combined volumes reaching 88,000 tons. Citrus fruits topped the list of exports during the week at 54,000 tons, followed by strawberries at around 17,000 tons and grapes at 12,000 tons. Vegetable exports totaled 44 varieties with combined volumes of 47,000 tons, led by potatoes at 11,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes and onions at 8,000 tons each, it added.
The Netherlands ranked as the top importer of Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Libya and Sudan, among 191 importing countries. Damietta Port handled the largest number of export consignments with 965 shipments, followed by Safaga Port with 940 and Alexandria port with 757, the Authority said.
NAFA added that 2,060 food import consignments totaling an estimated 300,000 tons were received during the same period by 900 importing companies. Imported products included wheat, soybeans and various oils. Russia was the leading exporter of food products to Egypt during the week, followed by Brazil, the US, Argentina and Indonesia, among 83 exporting countries.
Alexandria Port ranked first in incoming food consignments with 687 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 412 and Damietta port with 281, the report said. The Authority said 1,204 food consignments were released under temporary clearance procedures, while 447 consignments were cleared under the fast-track release system.
Violations were recorded for 57 consignments, and import licenses were issued to 92 importers during the same period.
