The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources held an event titled “Women: Energy Leading the Future,” attended by Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi, sector officials, lawmakers, media representatives and female leaders in the energy, petroleum and mining industries.
Badawi said Egyptian women are key partners in implementing the ministry’s strategy through their active role across the petroleum and mining sectors, adding that female professionals in the industry have presented distinguished models reflecting their expertise and capabilities in supporting modernization and development plans.
He said women’s success in the sector extends beyond leadership positions to technical, administrative and field roles, stressing that their contribution is substantive and central to managing operations and projects rather than symbolic representation. The minister added that women in the sector have taken on complex responsibilities and demonstrated the ability to manage them efficiently, reflecting progress in women’s empowerment and the use of their expertise across industry activities.
Badawi said the ministry is committed to providing a supportive work environment that ensures equal opportunities and promotes women’s participation in decision-making positions, alongside continued investment in training and capacity-building programs to prepare a new generation of female leaders in the petroleum, gas, mining and petrochemicals industries.
The event included two panel discussions on women’s empowerment in the petroleum and mining sectors and their growing role in supporting modernization efforts, as well as presentations by female executives in refining, petrochemicals, mining and marketing. Participants also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the executive and legislative branches to support women’s empowerment and expand female participation across the sector.
Discussions highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, expanding technical and administrative training programs and cooperating with educational institutions and international organizations to improve the skills of female workers, particularly in mining, drilling platforms and industrial projects.
Participants stressed the importance of continuing events and discussions that highlight women’s success stories in the petroleum and mining sectors to promote empowerment and encourage younger generations to take part in the industry’s development efforts.
