The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has donated 200 pieces of protective equipment to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT to strengthen security operations across Lagos and its maritime domain. The Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Ayodele Ogunsan, disclosed this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Adams Aliu.

The donation comprises 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests and 100 raincoats to improve the operational capacity and welfare of naval personnel deployed to secure Lagos waterways and maritime approaches. Ogunsan said the intervention formed part of the Fund’s sustained support for security agencies in Lagos, with targeted assistance aimed at addressing operational gaps and boosting personnel morale.

He added that other areas requiring intervention, identified during the engagement, would be addressed in due course. According to Ogunsan, the support is designed to strengthen Lagos’ security architecture and enhance the ability of security agencies to protect lives and property, particularly as the state approaches a sensitive election period.

He stressed that the evolving nature of security threats required sustained collaboration, effective coordination and timely information sharing among security agencies. According to him, closer cooperation would strengthen the ability of security forces to respond effectively to emerging threats, particularly across Lagos’ waterways and maritime approaches.

He added that the engagement was in line with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to build a highly motivated and professional naval force capable of protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests while contributing effectively to joint operations, national sovereignty and internal stability.
