Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam said the Irrigation Museum in Egypt's New Capital represents a significant cultural and scientific addition, reflecting the country's long history of achievements in water resources management and highlighting the pivotal role of science and engineering in supporting development throughout the ages.
Sewilam said the museum was established as part of the ministry's efforts to preserve its scientific and engineering heritage, safeguard the legacy of Egypt's water management sector and make it accessible to current and future generations. He noted that the initiative aims to raise awareness of the history of water management in Egypt while showcasing the country's accumulated expertise and unique civilizational legacy in this field.
The minister added that the museum offers a comprehensive educational experience documenting the evolution of water management in Egypt and demonstrating how the country, throughout different historical periods, successfully employed science, planning and engineering to implement water projects that played a vital role in achieving agricultural and economic development and promoting the sustainable management of water resources.
He pointed out that the museum houses a distinguished collection of historical documents, artifacts, engineering models and scientific instruments, alongside modern interactive display technologies that provide visitors with an enriching experience combining historical authenticity with contemporary presentation methods.
Sewilam stressed that the ministry adopted a modern vision for the museum that goes beyond displaying artifacts, transforming them into an interactive educational and cultural experience that highlights the importance of water in building Egyptian civilization and honors generations of scientists and engineers who contributed to developing Egypt's irrigation and water management systems.
He added that the museum serves as a cultural landmark reflecting an important chapter of Egypt's history and as a platform for promoting knowledge and raising public awareness of water-related issues.
