Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Austria's RHI Magnesita plan to establish an integrated refractory production facility in Egypt aligns with the government's strategy to localize advanced industrial technologies and boost the competitiveness of Egyptian manufacturing.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with Regional President for the Middle East, Tuckey and Africa (META) at RHI Magnesita Hakim el-Din Ali to discuss the company's proposed investment in a plant producing integrated refractory materials for heavy industries.
Hashem said Egypt's updated Industry Strategy 2030 identifies refractory manufacturing as a strategic supporting industry essential for the production of construction materials and metals, with applications across a range of engineering industries and national infrastructure projects.
Hashem said the planned facility would help meet a significant share of domestic demand while creating export opportunities to Middle Eastern and African markets. He said Egypt has become an attractive destination for major global heavy industry companies, citing a supportive investment environment, investor incentives and the country's industrial capabilities.
During the meeting, RHI Magnesita outlined its global operations in manufacturing refractory products used in the steel, cement, aluminum, copper and glass industries, as well as its international expansion strategy and ongoing assessment of a new manufacturing facility in Egypt.
Ali said the company views Egypt as one of the region's most promising markets because of its abundant, high-purity raw materials and strategic location, which positions it as a regional manufacturing and export hub. He said RHI Magnesita operates an integrated production chain, from raw material extraction and processing to finished products, and is also active in recycling and digital industrial solutions serving a wide range of industries.
