Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem held talks on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with Andrew Daniel, Chairman of Ersco Renewable Energy Solutions, on opportunities to support the green transformation of Egypt’s industrial sector through expanded renewable energy use and sustainable infrastructure.

During the meeting, Ersco reviewed its experience in developing solar energy projects for industry since 2011, noting that the total capacity of completed and ongoing projects has reached approximately 170 megawatts, implemented by Egyptian engineering teams. Discussions focused on potential cooperation in developing industrial microgrids and expanding solar energy projects in industrial zones to provide reliable energy supplies, reduce operating costs, improve productivity, and attract further investment.

Hashem stressed that renewable energy has become an economic necessity for enhancing industrial competitiveness, lowering production costs, and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. He also highlighted the importance of helping Egyptian exporters meet international environmental standards, including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The minister reviewed the “Industry Sun” initiative, which aims to install rooftop solar systems at around 7,000 factories nationwide with a total targeted capacity of 1,000 megawatts. The initiative seeks to reduce energy costs, lower natural gas consumption, strengthen the competitiveness of Egyptian products, and increase local content in renewable energy manufacturing.

Hashem also proposed launching an integrated solar energy and microgrid pilot project in an industrial zone that could later be replicated across other industrial areas, supporting the development of sustainable, low-emission industrial hubs. For his part, Daniel expressed Ersco’s readiness to support Egypt’s industrial development strategy through renewable energy solutions that improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance the export competitiveness of Egyptian products.

He also emphasized the company’s commitment to increasing local content and supporting national value chains in line with Egypt’s clean energy and industrial development objectives.
