Indonesian Ambassador to Cairo Kuntjoro Giri Waseso affirmed his country's aspiration to increase trade volume with Egypt, which currently exceeds $1 billion annually, given the historical relations between both nations. This came during the ambassador's meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with board members of the Aswan Chamber of Commerce, chaired by Hossam Al-Ansari, in the presence of Suhair Al-Masry, Head of the Businesswomen Economic Council at the chamber, along with Indonesian embassy officials.
The ambassador pointed out that Indonesia occupies an advanced position among investing countries in the Egyptian market through various projects, expressing happiness over visiting Aswan to solidify joint work and investment. For her part, Suhair Al-Masry highlighted the ambassador's eagerness to meet chamber members to enhance cooperation, urging utilization of joint opportunities with Indonesia, a major global exporter of modern technology.She explained that chamber officials presented the governorate's immense natural resources, particularly in mining, quarry materials, and the marble industry.
Al-Masry noted she reviewed the pivotal role of the Businesswomen Economic Council in supporting working women across agricultural and industrial sectors. She added that a proposal was made to organize a joint meeting between exporters, importers, and manufacturers from both countries.
The Indonesian embassy's commercial attaché promised to organize this meeting soon to establish a shared market via Aswan, alongside agreeing to provide the chamber with a database of Indonesian traders and market needs. Meanwhile, Chairman Hossam Al-Ansari welcomed the ambassador's visit to discuss cooperation in industry, mining, and foodstuff sectors.
Al-Ansari stated that the chamber presented a list of Aswan's mining resources and solar energy fields, seeking Indonesian expertise to support manufacturing solar power station components, which are currently imported. He added that Egypt's vision to expand into Africa and Sudan via its southern gateway was presented, positioning Aswan as a hub for Indonesian exports to Sudan and the continent.
He revealed that an invitation was extended to the Indonesian side to invest in the logistics zone being implemented in Karkar, south of Aswan, leveraging Egypt's logistics support and investment facilities. Al-Ansari concluded that the ambassador invited the chamber and local investors to participate via Zoom in an upcoming investment exhibition organized by Indonesia to showcase trade and partnership opportunities.
