Egypt ranked first in Africa and second in the Arab world in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in 2024, Chairman of General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Mohamed Awad said on Monday July 6,2026. Addressing the Egyptian-Belgian Business Forum, Awad said the State continues to strengthen its position as one of the region's leading investment destinations, backed by its strategic location, advanced infrastructure and large domestic market, enhancing its ability to attract foreign investment Awad stressed the readiness of GAFI to translate the interest of Belgian companies into concrete projects and investments, with a particular focus on green energy, logistics, industry, technology, and healthcare.
He noted that Egypt's strategic geographic location, coupled with its network of ports and airports, as well as the Suez Canal, provides investors with access to markets across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. He said GAFI adopts a proactive approach to supporting investors by streamlining procedures, providing services through the one-stop-shop system, expanding digital transformation, and offering more than 1,300 investment opportunities through the digital investment map across various sectors and governorates.
Awad also reviewed the priority sectors for cooperation between Egypt and Belgium, led by green energy, infrastructure, logistics, advanced industries, pharmaceuticals, sustainable agriculture, water management technologies, digital services, healthcare, and the circular economy.
He affirmed GAFI's readiness to organize specialized meetings with Belgian companies and transform existing interest into investment partnerships and projects that support the expansion of Belgian investments in the Egyptian market.
