Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Friday, October 2, 2026, participated in launching the Egyptian–South African Business Council during an investment event on Africa’s automotive sector, organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the South African side.
Abdelatty said the Council was launched amid growing momentum in Egyptian–South African relations and increased high-level political engagement, stressing the need to translate this momentum into broader economic and investment cooperation. He highlighted promising opportunities for cooperation in mining and mineral resources, industry, energy and renewable energy, agriculture and food processing, pharmaceuticals, transport, logistics, ports, and infrastructure.
He also called for leveraging the two countries’ membership in BRICS, as well as South Africa’s membership in Afreximbank, to expand financing and investment opportunities and support joint private-sector projects. The minister underscored the importance of developing transport and logistics links between northern and southern Africa, including reciprocal logistics zones and regular shipping routes, while making greater use of the Suez Canal and the ports of both countries to facilitate trade and investment across the continent.
He expressed hope that the Council would serve as an effective platform for translating available opportunities into concrete investments and projects, thereby strengthening economic and trade ties between Egypt and South Africa and contributing to African economic integration.
