A fire broke out on Friday at Bono Tank Farm in the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos, prompting an emergency response as firefighters battled to contain the blaze. The incident occurred at the facility along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, a major industrial corridor lined with tank farms and energy installations.
The cause of the fire had yet to be established. Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, said firefighters had been deployed to the scene. As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of the damage.
Emergency responders were working to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring facilities in the densely industrialised area. The incident has renewed concerns over fire safety at petroleum storage facilities in Apapa, where the concentration of fuel depots and other critical energy infrastructure heightens the risk of major emergencies.
Authorities said further details, including the cause of the fire and the outcome of firefighting operations, would be released as investigations and emergency efforts continued.
