Egypt aims to build a stronger, more impactful partnership with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to support the country's development and investment priorities, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said on Monday, September 7, 2026. Speaking during a meeting with AIIB President Zou Jiayi, Kouchouk said Egypt's strategic location positions it to play a pivotal role in strengthening economic and investment connectivity between Asia and Africa.
He added that Egypt is seeking to expand cooperation with the bank on sustainable infrastructure projects capable of adapting to climate change. Kouchouk stressed that diversifying financing sources and instruments would support development efforts while reducing their costs, adding that Egypt is exploring more innovative financing mechanisms to encourage private investment in priority sectors.
"We are working to strengthen our partnership with international institutions to mobilize greater concessional financing and funding that can catalyze private-sector investment," Kouchouk said. He also highlighted promising opportunities for cooperation with AIIB on green transformation projects, as well as regional connectivity and transport initiatives.
