Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) Ahmed el Wakil described the new public shop licensing system as a "historic opportunity" to integrate informal businesses into the formal economy, urging traders and business owners to take advantage of government incentives to regularize their operations.
El Wakil praised the government's efforts to simplify licensing procedures through the Digital Egypt platform, highlighting reduced fees, streamlined services and discounts of up to 50% during the initial implementation phase. He said the system would improve the business environment by expanding the formal economy, enhancing transparency by publishing all official fees online, and preventing unauthorized charges.
El-Wakil also called for expanding the platform's services to cover sole proprietorships, partnerships, and small businesses across the Suez Canal and Sinai regions, pledging that local chambers of commerce would provide technical support, awareness campaigns, and digital assistance to help businesses transition to the new system.
