Egypt’s Ezz Steel has increased rebar prices in the domestic market, reflecting rising costs and policy-driven supply constraints. The company raised its rebar offer to EGP 39,850 (USD 769) per ton EXW, up from EGP 37,200 (USD 718) per ton previously, inclusive of 14pct VAT.
Market participants attributed the increase to anti-dumping duties on billet imports, which have tightened supply and supported higher local prices. Egyptian authorities have implemented a safeguard duty of 13pct from April to September 2026. The rate will gradually decline to 12pct and 11pct over the following two years.
The move follows the imposition of a provisional duty of 16.2pct in September 2025. Industry sources also pointed to currency depreciation, higher input costs and rising logistics expenses as key drivers. The weakness of the Egyptian currency has had a significant impact, with a large share of raw materials sourced from imports.
