Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat participated in the Chinese SANY Group's celebration marking the start of constructing the first wind turbine factory in Egypt and establishing a 2,000-megawatt wind power project financed in Egyptian pounds.
The Ministry of Electricity explained in a statement on Friday that the Chinese company presented a detailed presentation covering its global factories manufacturing solar and wind energy equipment and the modern technology that will be localized in Egypt. Chairman of SANY Renewable Energy Li Qiang, Overseas CEO Liu Yu, and African Branch General Manager Alex Ba stated that launching the wind power and localized turbine manufacturing projects reflects deep Egyptian-Chinese relations and a shared commitment to clean energy, noting that Egypt possesses the wind resources and strategic location to become a regional renewable energy hub.
For his part, Esmat highlighted the state's plan to achieve energy security, transition to clean energy, and reduce conventional fuel use in partnership with the private sector. The minster added that the project includes establishing the first integrated wind turbine factory in Egypt and Africa with an annual production capacity of 2 gigawatts, supporting local manufacturing, technology transfer, and exports to African, Arab, and European markets.
Esmat affirmed that the government has taken all measures to create an attractive investment climate, urging accelerated execution and technical studies to ensure the project's success as a model of economic integration under the Egyptian-Chinese partnership.
