Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed on Monday, October 12, 2026, with Thai Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Nirat Yubakdi and committee members strengthening bilateral ties and expanding parliamentary and economic cooperation. During the meeting, held as part of Abdelatty’s visit to Bangkok, the two sides reviewed ways to boost legislative exchanges, increase high-level parliamentary visits and share expertise and best practices.
Abdelatty stressed the need to build on positive momentum in bilateral relations and strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation. He highlighted a December 2024 memorandum of understanding establishing a joint trade committee and a framework for economic cooperation.
He said Thailand could serve as a gateway for Egyptian products and investment into ASEAN markets, while Egypt could provide Thai companies with access to African and European markets. He also welcomed Thailand’s growing engagement with Africa and called for closer cooperation, drawing on Egypt’s longstanding role on the continent.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including developments in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, underscoring the importance of continued coordination and consultation. Yubakdi praised existing cultural and educational cooperation, including the role of Al-Azhar missions, and expressed interest in expanding academic exchanges between Egyptian and Thai universities, particularly in key fields of mutual interest.
