Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, during his visit to the United States, held talks with Mohamad Al-Bashir, Syria’s Minister of Energy, on avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sectors. The discussions took place within the framework of the fraternal ties between the two countries and ongoing efforts to support regional energy cooperation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said that the two ministers reviewed progress in implementing the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in the field of natural gas. Discussions included follow-up procedures related to the gas supply agreement through the Arab Gas Pipeline, as well as opportunities for cooperation in rehabilitating and developing Syria’s energy infrastructure by leveraging the expertise and capabilities of Egyptian petroleum-sector companies, particularly ENPPI and Petrojet.

The talks also covered cooperation in technical training, capacity building, and the exchange of expertise. Badawi emphasized that Egyptian-Syrian relations are rooted in longstanding historical and fraternal ties between the two brotherly peoples, providing a strong foundation for expanding cooperation across various sectors, particularly energy.

He noted that the shared interests and converging visions of both countries regarding greater Arab integration create significant opportunities for advancing partnerships in the oil and natural gas industries in a manner that serves their mutual interests. The minister added that Egypt possesses extensive expertise and capabilities across all segments of the petroleum and gas industry, supported by advanced infrastructure that includes gas transmission networks, processing facilities, and liquefaction plants.

These assets position Egypt to support future cooperation projects with Syria. He stressed that deeper collaboration between the two countries would contribute to strengthening energy security and promoting regional integration, while supporting development efforts, reconstruction initiatives, and the recovery of Syria’s energy sector.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination and explore the establishment of a technical mechanism to oversee the implementation of agreed projects and opportunities, with the aim of supporting the recovery of Syria’s energy sector and further enhancing bilateral cooperation.
