Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said on Monday, September 21, 2026, that Egypt is seeking to attract more German companies, particularly SMEs and firms specializing in advanced technologies, to transfer technology and expertise, strengthen local manufacturing and expand private-sector partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of 11 German industrial companies, Hashem highlighted Egypt's infrastructure, skilled workforce, trade agreements and strategic location as key advantages for German investors seeking access to Middle Eastern and African markets.
He said Egypt-Germany trade reached around €6 billion last year, adding that the ministry is implementing a program to develop local suppliers and integrate them into global supply chains by providing incentives for major companies to develop Egyptian suppliers.
Hashem also said the ministry is introducing a "Qima" certification system that will link industrial incentives to higher local content, deeper manufacturing, supplier development, technology investment, research and development, and workforce training. He said the Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP) is designed to attract major global manufacturers and expand the localization of vehicle production and related industries, with incentives increasing as local content and supply-chain localization rise.
The minister said several international companies have recently announced new investments in Egypt in tire manufacturing, electric vehicle batteries and production lines, reflecting opportunities for further growth in the automotive and related industries. The meeting included representatives of companies such as BSH, DMG Mori, Heidelberg Materials, Knauf, Leoni Egypt, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens and Villeroy & Boch.
Some already operate in Egypt, while others are considering new investments. German Ambassador to Egypt Jürgen Schulz said Germany is keen to expand economic and industrial cooperation with Egypt and increase the presence of German companies in the Egyptian market, citing opportunities to support skills development, industrial localization and technology transfer.
