Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir and his Saudi counterpart Saleh Al-Jasser discussed ways to enhance cooperation in transport, logistics and maritime connectivity to support trade and capitalize on the strategic geographic locations of Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The meeting took place at the start of El-Wazir’s visit to Germany from September 22-25 to participate in the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin. At the beginning of the meeting, El-Wazir congratulated Al Jasser on the Saudi National Day and conveyed Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly’s greetings to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi people, wishing the Kingdom continued progress and prosperity.El Wazir underscored the deep-rooted ties between the Egyptian and Saudi peoples, saying the relationship extends beyond diplomatic and economic ties and is rooted in a shared history and common interests.He said Egypt’s development vision under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 provide broad opportunities for greater integration through strategic partnerships in transport, logistics and other vital sectors.
Al-Jasser, for his part, stressed the depth of Saudi-Egyptian relations and the importance of strengthening cooperation across all transport sectors, particularly in light of the major development in transport and infrastructure in both countries.The two ministers discussed joint efforts to enhance integration between Egypt and Saudi Arabia along international trade corridors and strengthen links between Egyptian and Saudi ports to support trade between the two countries and onward to Gulf states.They highlighted the importance of the Arab Southern Trade Corridor, which links Europe with the Gulf through Egypt, using the Egyptian-Italian Ro-Ro route between Damietta and Trieste and integrated international logistics corridors extending to Safaga Port, then to Neom Port, formerly Duba Port, in Saudi Arabia via Egyptian national shipping companies and onward to other Gulf countries.El-Wazir said Egypt has planned eight integrated logistics corridors linking industrial, agricultural and mining production areas with seaports, as well as connecting Red Sea ports with Mediterranean ports through railway and road networks, dry ports and logistics zones.
The projects are part of efforts to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics and transit trade, he said.The two sides concluded by stressing the need to build on existing cooperation and expand partnerships in economic, investment and trade fields.
They also highlighted the role of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council as an important institutional framework for coordinating efforts and advancing bilateral cooperation.
