Spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture Khaled Gad, said the ministry successfully harnessed modern technology and digital transformation to register agricultural holdings and monitor encroachments using satellite imagery. In a phone-in with Egypt’s Channel One on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Gad said the ministry made significant efforts in recent months to identify and remove fictitious and inaccurate agricultural holdings nationwide, in order to ensure that subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries. He explained that the ministry is working to issue and activate the smart card, while also surveying and mapping agricultural land areas so that each plot is assigned a unique national identification number.
This will enable accurate registration of land data and the creation of an integrated database of agricultural holdings.Gad pointed out that the ministry successfully incorporated and linked around 8 million feddans to the electronic agricultural-holding system nationwide, allowing them to be protected and monitored through satellite technology and utilized in the agricultural land governance system, digital farms for exports and other applications. He added that the ministry has electronic applications that provide farmers with agricultural advisory services, including recommendations on proper fertilization, pesticide use and other practices aimed at improving production and increasing the efficiency of agricultural operations.
