Egypt's exports are expected to increase by at least 20 percent through the development of the logistics sector, enabling the country to become a global logistics hub, the Egyptian Association of Tax Experts (EATE) said. The EATE said this could be achieved through a number of measures, including offering tax and customs incentives to major international companies to establish Egypt as a global re-export and warehousing center.
Secretary of the Senate Economic Committee and EATE Chairman Ashraf Abdel Ghani said in a statement on Friday July 17,2026 that the logistics industry is a cornerstone of global trade, responsible for managing and delivering goods and services from production sites to consumers.
He explained that the sector encompasses four main stages: transportation-whether by land, sea, or air-for moving products and raw materials; warehousing using secure, modern storage facilities; packaging to protect products; and reverse logistics, including returns management and recycling of remaining products.
Abdel Ghani noted that Egypt's freight and logistics market grew to $14.5 billion last year and is expected to reach $18 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.3 percent. He pointed out that despite Egypt's strategic geographic location, the country ranked 97th globally in logistics performance in 2014.
However, following the government's development plan, Egypt advanced 40 places to rank 57th worldwide. The plan included increasing the capacity of Egyptian ports to handle containers from 11 million to 25 million TEUs, with a target of 40 million TEUs by 2030, while cargo handling capacity has risen from 170 million tons to 270 million tons, with a goal of reaching 400 million tons by 2030.
Abdel Ghani added that the strategy also included implementing a national project to expand the country's main road network from 23,500 kilometers to 31,000 kilometers, as well as establishing seven international logistics corridors linking agricultural, industrial and mining production areas with seaports through an integrated network of highways, railways, and logistics zones.
