Egypt is seeking to expand domestic ammunition production and reduce reliance on imports as part of efforts to strengthen its defense manufacturing industry, Minister of State for Military Production Major General Salah Suleiman Gomblat said on Saturday. Gomblat made the remarks during a meeting with the heads of ministry-affiliated companies involved in ammunition production at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of ammunition supply contracts, current production plans and measures to increase manufacturing capacity. He said developing ammunition production is a strategic priority for supporting local manufacturing and increasing Egypt’s ability to meet its defense requirements domestically.
He called for continued modernization of production lines, more efficient use of existing manufacturing capabilities and further development of specialized personnel. Companies were also instructed to maintain strict quality and efficiency standards throughout the production process.
The minister said that the ministry is seeking to localize modern technologies and increase the use of domestically produced components to reduce dependence on imports. He also called for greater cooperation among affiliated companies to improve production and make better use of available industrial capacity.
Gomblat urged companies to continue workforce training and adopt modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, where applicable. He added that the measures would support the development of Egypt’s defense industrial base, meet domestic demand and create further opportunities for exports.
He also ordered regular monitoring of production and supply contracts to ensure schedules are met and any problems affecting manufacturing are addressed quickly.
