The Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for 2026 kicked off in the French capital, Paris, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with Egypt participating in the event represented by Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom.
The ministerial meeting aims to explore ways to steer industrial policies in support of technological development while maintaining market competitiveness and openness, as well as addressing the economic balances required to achieve these objectives. Developments in the Middle East and their repercussions on food and energy supplies are casting a shadow over this year’s meetings amid escalating geopolitical challenges affecting the stability of global markets and supply chains.
The current session of the Council is chaired by Finland, represented by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, with the Republic of Korea and New Zealand serving as Vice-Chairs. The two-day meeting features a series of sessions and side events. Coinciding with the launch of the ministerial meetings, OECD experts released the latest edition of the Economic Outlook report, which includes key analyses and forward-looking insights on global economic trends.
The report was presented by OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and Chief Economist Stefano Scarpetta. MENA Egypt advises citizens to postpone travel to Ebola-hit regions amid global alert Egypt advises citizens to postpone travel to Ebola-hit regions amid global alert
