Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny attended the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) and the Liberian Civil Aviation Authority as part of Egypt's strategy to expand cooperation with African countries and strengthen the exchange of expertise and capacity building in the civil aviation sector.
The signing took place at the conclusion of the 11th AFI Aviation Week 2026 (Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Week). The agreement aims to establish an institutional framework for providing technical support to the Liberian side in several areas of air transport, in addition to implementing specialized training programs and transferring Egyptian expertise.
The initiative is intended to help qualify human resources in accordance with the standards and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Hefny said that the signing of the MoU reflects the civil aviation sector's ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with African countries.
He stressed that knowledge transfer and the exchange of expertise are fundamental pillars for supporting sustainable development in civil aviation and promoting greater integration among African nations. The minister added that Egypt's expertise across various civil aviation fields is gaining increasing recognition throughout Africa, as demonstrated by the growing number of technical partnerships with several countries.
He noted that these partnerships support the development of the air transport sector while reinforcing Egypt's position as a leading regional hub for civil aviation. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of AFI Aviation Week 2026, underscoring the event's success in fostering greater cooperation among African countries and opening new opportunities for technical partnerships that will contribute to the future development of the continent's civil aviation industry.
