Egyptian Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi affirmed that Egypt is implementing an integrated energy strategy aimed at securing domestic market needs while simultaneously enhancing its role as a regional energy hub, leveraging its strategic geographic location and advanced infrastructure in natural gas, oil refining, storage, and transportation.
This came during the minister’s participation in a high-level panel discussion on the future of energy, held as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, with the participation of several ministers and senior officials. The Minister said the state is continuing its efforts to increase oil and gas production through intensified exploration activities, accelerated development of discoveries, and the creation of an investment-friendly environment, in order to support economic growth and meet rising domestic energy demand.
Badawi added that Egypt is also working in parallel to maximize the value-added of its natural resources by expanding refining and petrochemical industries, alongside implementing an integrated strategy to diversify energy sources. This includes expanding renewable energy, improving efficiency, advancing green hydrogen projects, and developing the mining sector and strategic minerals that support the energy transition.
The Minister noted that achieving a balance between meeting domestic demand and enhancing export opportunities depends on increasing production, developing infrastructure, and maximizing the economic returns of natural resources through higher-value manufacturing industries.
